    1. Thanks for the link. I went right to it! My Grandmother had lilac sachets in her lingerie drawer too and a trellis of lilacs growing up over the porch. I always associate her with that strong, sweet fragrance. It is true: Smell is the strongest and most vivid sense for long-term memories. You must be familiar with Diane Ackerman’s work: A Natural History of the Senses, great at blending the literary with the scientific.

Thanks for spreading the joy, on my blog today and beyond. By the end of the day you will be The Gutsy Story Contest winner. Let me be the first to congratulate you, Laurie!

      1. Marian – Isn’t it interesting that so many women in our young-and-spunky age bracket had grandmothers who favored lilac?! And yes, I am familiar with Diane Ackerman’s work. If any of your readers aren’t they would do well to avail themselves with her writing.

Thank you for the congratulations. If I do win the contest, I’m going to select the how-to writing book about emotion 🙂

    1. Absolutely! But I am not sure of the attribution for “Music is what feelings sound like” if you this include in your book. You might do a Google Advanced search. As you see, it’s just a snippet! Thanks for the mention–and the visit today.

    1. I’m glad this post felt uplifting to you. I know you and Bob both love music. Perhaps some music therapy is in order? More references to the power of music in the February Purple Passages post. Thanks for the visit–and the comment, Sherrey.

  2. My favorite quote was about dreams and regrets. It’s so true that life loses its luster once we start seeing it for its disappointments instead of its possibilities.
